In the mid-1950s, Inuit families were lured by false promises of a better life and displaced by the Canadian government to the Far North. Martha Flaherty shares her story of this displacement.
Abstract: -
In the mid-1950s, five-year-old Martha Flaherty and her parents, as well as a handful of other Inuit families, were displaced from their homes by the Canadian government to Ellesmere, Canada's most northern island. Lured by false promises, they soon discovered that the Arctic islands were among the least hospitable of places in the world to human life. This Canadian documentary follows Flaherty as she describes her community, their resilience, and the displacement they experienced.
